We’re less than two weeks from the official start of summer, but here in North Texas it we’re already starting to feel the heat of summer…and so are our lawns.
With drought conditions and water restrictions, keeping your lawn plush and green can be challenging. Here are a few tips for keeping your lawn in the best condition possible during the inevitable North Texas heat wave.
1. Hire a professional lawn treatment company so that fertilization, weed control and other treatments are applied properly and at the correct time of year.
2. Water your lawn as early in the morning as possible so as to maximize the amount of water that soaks down into the soil – rather than evaporates in the Texas sun.
3. Raise the mowing level just a notch to help prevent “scalping” and “burn-out”. In general, you never want to cut more than 1/3 the height of your grass. It is far better for your lawn to mow more frequently than to mow it shorter.
It sounds simple enough, but it is amazing how giving your lawn just a bit of attention can make all of the different in the world.
